Could a stylish flight crew help you forget that you can't find space in the overhead bin because nobody wants to pay the checked bag fee? Or erase the memory of not making it home Friday night because your plane was overbooked and you made the mistake of buying a ticket on the last flight of the day?
Perhaps not. But that hasn't stopped the airline industry from trying to dress up its image literally.
On Friday,spaccio hogan, United Airlines joined the highflying fashion ranks when it locked up designer Cynthia Rowley to make over the uniforms of about 41,500 workers. Chicago based United plans to unveil the new look in 2011 for its flight attendants,hogan outlet, check in workers, pilots and mechanics, said spokeswoman Robin Urbanski.
The practice of trotting out renowned designers to create in flight fashion is nothing new. Italian designer Emilio Pucci created waves in the 1960s when he put Braniff International Airways flight attendants in psychedelic tunics. Air France tapped Nina Ricci,spaccio hogan, Christian Dior and Christian Lacroix. TWA hired Ralph Lauren. Delta Air Lines commissioned Kate Spade and Richard Tyler.
Rowley, a native of Barrington, is meeting with United employees, including in Chicago, to get their feedback on designs. Perhaps that will avoid any mishaps,scarpe hogan, such as the 1999 upheaval when Cathay Pacific Airways' flight attendants were mandated to wear a purple short skirt that they said made them look like "a walking eggplant."
